A few weeks after Granddad was killed and I kind of started to come up out of my fog (barely– because I am still in a fog…) I decided that I would make it my life’s mission to make a difference for other people in his name and memory. No one deserves to die the way he did, and for such stupid, material things.
I know the direction I am going with my education and career is for advocacy for the elderly and it will include and the victims of homicide who are left behind– like we are. There are not many resources available for us, his family– and it is so difficult, we are all going through similar feelings and emotions, and do lean on each other, but it would be helpful if there were more community resources to get support from. That is what I want to do for people.
Right now though, the reason I started this website is to raise the money to have a memorial placed at Mary Gibbard Park with a tree and plaque to remember him by. I have used Paypal, which is owned by eBay, to make it easy for those who would like to donate online. It is totally safe and secure (I use it all the time for my eBay addiction). Eventually, this site will become the place for my research and information as I gather it together. Hopefully it can become a site that will help people, I know it does help me to deal with it as I try to make a difference, I just hope to eventually feel that he did not die in vain.
